Resting heart rates range from 50 – 100 with 70 being about the average.  Typically the average person should be exercising between 65% & 85% of their maximal heart rate..

When you first begin an exercise session, you have the largest increase in your heart rate and then it will level off.  You should strive to work within your target heart rate range throughout your entire cardio session.

  • If your heart rate is too low, you may not be getting the health benefits.
  • If you are working above your zone, then you can be setting yourself up for injury.
  • If you are on medication, have difficulty finding your heart rate or cannot seem to exercise within your heart rate range or if you experience any signs or symptoms during exercise, you should check with your physician.
